Curriculum Objectives

Inquiry-Based Learning

Learners learn to question, interpret, and classify in order to develop logical, imaginative thinking. They learn to explore, analyze, and evaluate information, use it in problem solving, and then are challenged to articulate, revise, and defend their thinking.

Cooperative Learning

Learners learn to listen, speak, read, write, and interpret effectively as individuals and as members of cooperative groups. They become aware of how culture, art, music, dance, drama, and sport serve as vehicles for self-expression in extending communication.

Technological Integration

Learners develop an appreciation for the value, as well as the limitations of technology. They will learn to evaluate the environmental, cultural, and social impact of technological changes.

Personal and Social Values

Learners develop personal skills including goal setting, self-discipline, self-motivation, organization, and time management that contribute to a healthy self-esteem. In addition, learners are expected to extend consciousness beyond self in order to develop a grounded social values system based upon respect for self and others.

Peace Education

Learners acquire holistic development through the integration of Peace Education (Democracy and Citizenship, Human Rights, Environmental Education, Conflict Resolution, Health and Safety, and Service Learning), within all aspects of the school.

Global Awareness and Understanding

Learners acquire this through cultural sensitivity,  international appreciation, and understanding. Learners develop an appreciation of the interdependent responsibility of nations, cultures, and individuals.

Differentiation

Learners are exposed to multiple approaches to content, process, and product, based on differences in interest, learning profile, and readiness.

Authentic Assessment

Learners perform real-world tasks that demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills. They are engaged and exposed to problems or questions of importance, in which they must use knowledge to fashion performances effectively and creatively.

Gifted Program

Learners demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication. They develop innovative products and sophisticated performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are targeted to an audience outside the classroom.
